Exactly. As Fatbrit used to say, it's usually a case not of choosing America, but of "America choosing us" through marriage or company transfer.

In addition, teacher morale has never been lower the way they'retreated as pawns in a cold, unfeeling political system

It is several decades since most (no, not "all", but in the range 80%-90%) in either the US or UK behaved like the professionals they claim to be.

However you feel personally about the matter I don't know how you come to that specific conclusion regarding a majority of teachers.
