Default Hey

Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone could help with the following question I have. I have a degree, and just got a masters, I am 25 y/o, I have 2 years of work experience, and looking to move the US, and hopefully a job over there in the Hospitality industry. Realistically what would the chances be that I could obtain a work visa? Thanks for the help already and for taking the time to answer this message. Also if you have any advice I would greatly appreciate it.

This year, none.

Realistically, unless it's a company transfer, slim to none.

Visa will cost a employer thousands for something that takes time, when they have a pool of experienced people that could start work tomorrow and cost nothing extra, so you need to have more to offer them.

Depending on when you graduated, possibly look into a J1 internship, possibly something at Disney.

That pretty much covers it.

Honestly, assuming that you're single, the best shot you have is marriage to a USC. Spending time in the US on a J1 visa would help in that regard. Others have found internet dating to be successful.

No, I am not joking.

Get yourself a job in a global hotel chain and get a transfer to the US.

You will need to get managerial/executive experience to qualify probably, but its definitely a plausible route.

What is your Masters in?

Check my post in this thread.
It's a very tough job market.

I advise staying in the UK and building up specialist experience, or finding an American girlfriend

"Girlfriend" alone doesn't cut it for immigration visa purposes, you need a girlfriend with "development potential".

I personally know 2 people who have transferred to US through work visas from UK Hotels(with a US connection). A sales director /former GM, and a HR/Organisation Development Guru.

As a HR generalist with a degree and 10 years in hotels in London, I tried for a transfer years ago, and was turned down flat by the company for sponsorship. Had to get married to get a visa. Luckily, the (ex)wife was the reason I wanted to move in the first place.

Hospitality being hotels??

I have a friend who works for a large hotel chain as a manager and night manager. He is transferring later this year to Baltimore.

Transferring is the way to go. I don't think it will be a particularly easy route through direct recruitment.
