Default From helpless to powerful

Please give this a thought:
As future immigrants, our spouses have NO political power in this country--at least not yet-- because they can't vote. But as proud American Citizens, we do have a lot of power.
Right this minute (7-10-02) there is heavy debate, in both the House and the Senate, regarding laws that will have a HUGE impact on immigrants*, including our loved ones whom we are all so desperately trying to bring to live with us. Please pay attention to this legislation. Write to your congressmen and let them know how you feel about these bills and remind them that you will VOTE! This does not take long and it carries a lot of influence. Politicians will listen. It is amazing how very FEW us vote! So please, vote, vote, vote!

For example, I think we should vote NO on new laws that would make the Department of Homeland Security have full power over all VISA adjudications. This will cause huge delays beyond those already facing the INS. Similarly, we should vote YES on laws that increase the efficiency of the INS. Maybe it won't affect those who are already close to getting their visas. But please think about those immigrants who will come after us. As we know through our loved ones... immigrants make this country better :-).

Also note there are several bills up for vote that will provide green card access to several categories of visaholders that were previously denied filing rights for PR status. Also they are once again attempting to put through an extension of the 245(i).
