Help Needed Badly-Dual Citizen
Ok so I was born in 1988 in the US and my dad was a British citizen at the time. So I have a British birth certificate as well as an American one. I am trying to figure out if I am a dual citizen or not. From what I have read it seems I am. And more importantly does anyone know if I can get a US security clearance with a dual citizenship?

Well, isn't your British birth cert proof of your British citizenship? I assume it's a British consular birth cert?
As for obtaining US security clearance, there is no blanket policy on dual citizenship - evaluations are done on a case-by-case basis. Dual citizenship obtained through parents or birth abroad is usually not a problem. However, if you act to take advantage of your British citizenship (e.g. by obtaining a British passport) then you could cast doubt on your unquestioned allegiance to the US. If unquestioned allegiance and freedom from foreign influence cannot be established, you will not be given security clearance.

I believe a consular registration certificate proves UK citizenship but a UK birth certificate doesn't always prove it since granting UK citizenship based on you being born in the UK was scrapped.

If you parents were not diplomats, then you are a US Citizen by virtue of being born in the US.
You are British if your dad is "British otherwise than by descent". Where was he born, and when?

Welcome to BE
There was a good thread on the whole dual citizenship and security clearance a couple months back I think that had loads of info, might be worth seeing if you can find it.

Prior to 1983 it was different - the consular birth registration constituted an acquisition of British nationality in some cases.
