Try getting the name of someone in HR of companies near you.
Just one small story... I got the name of an HR person at the local Philips offices near me. Showed up at reception with a letter saying the sort of position I wanted and a copy of my resume. I said I would follow up in 5 days.
5 days later I called reception and asked to be put through. The woman in HR did a 15 min phone interview with me on the spot for a good position and offered an in person interview after talking to the hiring manager.
The story has an anti climatic ending, since I accepted another offer in the mean time! But it taught me you got to get beyond all the websites and things every once and a while.
