I basically just want to say hello to everyone on here. I joined this site 2 years ago but after that I never posted or paid much attention however I’m now planning to look on here more often and take part in some discussions so I thought I would introduce myself.
My name is Dave, I live in Western Massachusetts, I moved over here in 2004 to marry my American wife, I’m originally from the Wirral but also lived in London for a few years. I’ve only met a few British people since being out here and only in passing. I miss England a lot but like it out here too.
I haven’t found many pubs around here that show English football but after 3 years I have found quite a few pubs close to where I live that have an excellent beer selection so thought Id share them with you. If you live in the area or are passing through you may want to pop in to one of them for a beer.

Northampton Brewing Company in Northampton

Brass Cat in Easthampton

Opa Opa Steak House and Brewery in Southampton

Amherst Brewing Company in Amherst

Moan and Dove in Amherst

Sierra Grille in Northampton

Peoples Pint in Greenfield

Dirty Truth in Northampton

Bye for now
Dave

Ok, a little scary.

I'm in Western Mass too. I also grew up in North Wales.

I'll happily sit in a bar after work, or on a weekend with some folks - who's up for it?

Glad you like it in the states, we really miss England too. Pubs and curries. Try Pintus in West Springfield if thats near you, proper curry!

I know Pintu......it's not bad but the Sitar in Springfield is much better,it's on Main St Springfield about 3-4 miles from Pintus place

Really? Is it like a really decent curry house? Flock wall paper and all? Will try it if you tell me that the curry is not graded by mild, medium or hot? And if you ask for hot they ask if you're sure???

Pintu used to work for them, btw yes they do ask how hot you want it unless you order a proper curry Madras,Vindaloo etc then it comes as is.
It is the best Indian I have had bar none including the Indians I have had in the UK

I am at home in any bar

Curry....I haven't found anywhere near me in PA that is really good but I have always made my own anyway. We lived in North London for a long time and had lots of indian grocers and also in Liverpool.
I just take a basic recipe and tweak it around until it tastes just like the ones from the Indian.
We have lots of indian grocers here in Pittsburgh so I can still get all the ingredients. It surprises me that there aren't more restaurants.
The few that we do have, class even mild curries as hot and there is no real depth of flavour.

In the UK we used to have curry nights with all our friends. I cooked , they brought the beer. I miss that.

Hello Patrick and hello everyone.
John Allen was apparently sacked by WRNX which is ridiculous as he was the best DJ on that radio station.

Pintus and Sitar are both top places IMHO. Pintus is a little more up-market (and slightly more expensive) but Sitar more resembles the bread and butter (or should that be poppadom and raita?) provincial UK curry house. The strange thing is that the Sitar was actually recommended to me by my GP, and that during a visit I had with him to complain of heartburn!!!

The only problem we've found at both is that despite asking my wife and I if we want ours mild/medium/hot (to which I always reply hot and she says medium), when we try each others' curries they're always the same heat strength.

Anyone else noticed this?
