Default Hello again

Hello everyone. I thought I would reintroduce myself. I posted a few times last year before we moved . Well we are now in Pittsburgh...been here for 3 months. I won't bore you with the details as you have all been there, done it and got the tee shirt.
I have been lurking in the background for a while and thought it was time to stick my head above the parapet

Hi
I think we are settling in slowly. We have been made really welcome and as I was without a car at first (I thought it would be easy to walk everywhere!!!!)
one of my neighbours took me out somewhere every week and showed me the city.Lots of invites over Christmas and New year. We miss family and friends but we have our first visitors arriving in April.
We haven't had time to explore Pittsburgh much. There seems to be a lot going on but we were a bit disappointed to find it didn't have a big shopping area in the downtown area. I like shopping in city centres. But never mind.
Only negative thing has been my youngest daughters school. She is 10 and goes to a middle school that is run like a prison. She already has 2 strikes against her name and will be "punished" if she does anything else wrong. Very different to her UK primary school.

LOL... I thought the same thing when I moved here (that I could walk or use public transport) It took me 1 ride on a public bus to tell me I needed a license ASAP.

I couldn't even find a bus! However I now have a car and driving here isn't as bad as I anticipated although I haven't driven into the city yet :scared:

I live within the city limits, first bus trip I took was down town when I got off the bus there were 3 large seperate groups of people I seriously thought by the way they were watching each other that they were about to have a gang fight.

Now I drive almost everywhere not many places I can walk to.

Be sure to have a sandwich at Primanti Bros. I've seen that place on 3 different food TV shows and it looks the business.

We plan to. I think they are in the Strip district. Our first weekend here we took the train/trolley into the city. It didn't stop anywhere near the Strip but being British I decided we were all capable of walking to the Strip. It was blisteringly hot and humid and we predictably went the wrong way at first. Finally we were heading in the right direction and it was miles. With our map and cameras we looked very obvious and some of the areas seemed a bit scary. When we finally got to the strip via MacDonald's (where another customer was really nasty to us...but thats another story) everything was closed. We haven't been back. But we will.

Many Shopping Malls are in other areas of the city rather than in the downtown area. In the UK you can park your car and walk from shop to shop but as your discovering here its you drive from shop to shop.

Hi. We are in Upper Saint Clair in the South Hills. I know where Cranberry is as my OH occasionally works up there.
Any recommendations for things to see and do around Pittsburgh?

A good view of da' burg is from the incline. Park at the base and take the inclined railway things up to the top - you get a great view of the city.
