Re: Heinz Beans!
Things I've learned from this thread ...
The Brits my Dad is talking to are NOT representative of the population. Or, he's selectively only sharing the opinions of those who agree with him. I suspect the latter ...
I need to try Heinz beans on a buttery piles of potatoes. I've only tried them on toast, and darn it, I like them.
Side note - this Yank would never eat cold beans. Room temperature at a cook-out (because they've cooled), maybe, but cold? Blech!

Heinz beans on buttery toast for Sunday tea after a brisk walk out.
Sausage, ham, or cold cuts from yesterdays roast with chips, Heinz beans & bread and butter
Heinz beans over a crispy buttery jacket potato with slatherings of H&P brown sauce.
Heinz beans for breakfast? Absolutely not. Never put even so much as one baked bean near a grilled tomato, mushroom or a fried egg.
Cooling beans go stodgy and are only suitable for being mopped up with bread & butter.
Cold beans straight from the can are for students and national emergencies
It has to be Heinz beans but they are hard to come by here and cost a fortune. Baked beans here tend too be too sweet.

Yes. Also my granny used to put them in a normal beef mince pie too when she'd bake them. Very nice indeed. Another good one is potato waffles covered in baked beans and grated cheese.
You always need the HP sauce though, it just makes it that much better

Birds eye potato waffles? I love those things. Have you found an equivalent here?

I used to love making burgers with them - sod the bun, just throw the meat between two potato waffles and away you go . With lots of beans too, just to stay on topic.

The very same. I haven't managed to find an alternative but I haven't really looked hard, I bet there is one somewhere.

Straight from the can is the way to go for 'cold' beans
