Default Healthcare Help

I am a U.K citizen who will arrive in America with no job or healthcare.
Can anyone advise a temporary healthcare plan that can cover me until I get employed

Thanks

When you get here find a Yellow pages and call a bunch of them. Do your homework before comitting to anything. Coverage will probably vary from state to state! Good luck! ô¿~

If it only for awhile then a Short term medical policy is needed.
If it is for longer then a renewable policy is needed.

Do not presume that all jobs offer health insurance.
Do assume that if they do, a proportion will come out of your paycheck.

How much risk are you willing to retain with regards a deductible, annual out of pocket expenses and co-pay
Will you just be covering yourself or an entire family?

Really feel like we are pissing in the wind here because you left a lot to the imagination with regards your status.

I guess it would be better to get a policy renewable say on a monthly basis, then if I got a job with healthcare then I could cancel it.
I was wondering really if there is a company that specialise in healthcare for ex-pats. Then I could look at the options and costs.

I would be entering on a marriage visa, as my wife is American. Hopefully she will be able to get healthcare of some sort through the the state.

Did you say "get healthcare through the state"????? Only if she works for one of them. No socialism here, brother. No social medicine either.

Seriously though, there are some clinics and county hospitals scattered around the country if you have no money at all and don't mind waiting several hours to be seen. Check out the website of people like Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Unicare, Aetna, etc. A very basic policy that will give you at least some coverage in case of an accident/going to hospital etc. can be bought at a more or less affordable rate. A good policy with a manageable deductible costs hundreds of dollars a month - or it did when I looked into it. The penalty of being self-employed. If your wife has/will get a job, she may be able to add you onto her policy for an additional premium, or if she has a good policy, it will include you as spouse.

An unofficial and casual way to answer this would be that you don't need one if you have enough money to pay the medical bills. For example, a checkup for $110, bloodworks for $55. A temporary healthcare plan is going to cost you more than it is worth because it will only cover catastrophic injuries and compensation. A temporary health plan will not pay your medical bills anyway.

Let's say you suddenly needed a typical $3000 worth of surgery. Then the temporary health plan would come in handy. Otherwise, it will actually contribute to your problems by shelling out dough that could be spent on typical medical bills.

Just get travel insurance, buy a years policy and it will cover you if your wife cant put you on her work healthcare. If you get healthcare over here you are talking serious money - depending on your age anything from 125 to 400 a month.

Firstly check that your future wife can't put you on her insurance. If she can't get travel insurance in the UK.

Travel insurance will only cover your for 90days at a time, even on a year policy. Then you have to return to your country for a given time before it will cover you again.

Some states do provide cheaper insurance coverage for those who don't have insurance or those on a low wage.
