Health problems in Texas

I wrote about this before, it strikes me that I hear of folks from England, especially men who experience health problems after a year or more in Texas.
Serious ones as well, i.e. heart issues, stroke, asthma, aneurism.
If you are from UK and living in Texas, hope you are keeping well and are in good health for your age, but if not could you share here?

Do you know anyone who has health issues that could sound a little odd if they happened back home?

We lived in TX for two years (10 yrs ago) Hubby is a USC, so I guess it doesn't apply to him and he is in good health, but my Son (7 at that time) presented with Diabetes type 1. I don't think it had anything to do with the actual state though

On the asthma matter, from what I understand it's quite the opposite. Indeed, back before the dust bowl, people with respiratory problems were sent to the TX/OK Panhandle, for their health.

Of course, the problem with your question may be that it treats TX as if every part were alike. It's a big place - perhaps if you gave us more of a clue as to where and what you're interested in, we could help more.

None of these sound odd to me. Certainly not in men.

I wonder whether different ailments tend to afflict those in different states?

We live in Massachusetts, and Mrs tonrob suffers from terrible wind...

Almost everyone I've met here seems to have a problem with their knees.

Yeah, I recently read about a group of three paleontologists who were all struck with Valley Fever after digging in the Arizona desert for fossil shark teeth. Damned near killed them all. One spent over a month in intensive care, and all three will be on anti-fungal medication for a year or more to try and clear the spores that encase themselves in various internal organs!

I came across this for the first time yesterday! A friend's daughter is thought to have it, although the first test was negative.

Morbid obesity and Christianity are two often-fatal diseases that are common amongst new immigrants to Texas.

Personally, I've avoided both, but I see sufferers every day.

I realize that this isn't a scientific study, but if you only ask for people who are not in good health to "share" then you aren't going to get a very balanced picture ...
