Default Health insurance for new immigrant (spouse visa)

My husband has been planning on putting me onto his work healthcare insurance before I arrive in the States this month (from the UK on a spouse visa). Can it be that simple or are they going to say I can't until I've been a resident for so many years, or until I have my social security number? Is it down to the company? Has anyone else came in and gone straight onto their spouses healthcare? If for some reason I can't, what do I do then? I literally need to know I'm covered by the end of next week. What if I have an accident driving from the airport?? Thanks.

All plans are different. In all honesty, there's only one way to find out -- he asks his employer and their health insurance provider to add you to his policy as of the relevant date and sees what the response is.

You asked this question back in June.

By now, with your move to the States imminent, your husband should have asked his company about health cover for you on his company policy. Most decent companies with decent policies will include employee dependents and usually from day one. However, it is up to the company and what insurance cover they have.

If you can't get onto his policy then you'll need to obtain one via the Government scheme (Obamacare), once you are in the country.

Moving to the US, would be "life changing" reason to be added.

Whether they will add you from day one, or taking up to 30 days, or whatever, will depend on the insurance, so yeah, as Nutmegger suggested, ask them.
