Default Health insurance for new arrival from UK

Can anyone advise on health insurance for the family. Can this be purchased in the UK for the first year? I will be self employed, any advice is welcome.

Thanks in advance

You might want to see if a mod can fix the thread title because it says "Life Insurance" but the question seems to be about health insurance.

The NHS is considered a health care insurer. Therefore, when you arrive in the US, any pre-existing conditions should be covered.

ehealthinsurance.com to start, or if you have someone working for anyone or any organization see if they have some plans they can offer that might be more affordable.

Would recommend reading this:

http://britishexpats.com/wiki/Health_Insurance

It could be as much as $1000-$1400 a month for a family of four but it depends on all the bells and whistles and whatnot.
