All,
Thanks for the comments especially about the additional costs.

We have two bike shops in a town of less than 2,000.
On a weekend the roads are packed, amazed at the number of people with very high end equipment.

Where I lived in middle TN (town of about 80,000) we had a very vibrant cycling club with all levels, all sorts of social events, cycling trips, etc.
Here in Glasgow (that's the UK Glasgow), there are a couple of clubs but not many people go out on the rides and they're so bloody SERIOUS. I have more fun going out rding by myself. At least I can go at my own pace and not feel like I have somehting to prove. I much preferred my middle TN cycling buddies.

Robin1234,
It seems you have answered my question, ie. your mother in law receives as good access to healthcare as you get on a good, company provided plan.
I am surprised, though, that in rural New York you don't have access to good healthcare. France, I believe, has very good healthcare. Not so the UK these days, except for the excellent system of free, usually same day access to a GP.
Thanks very much for taking the trouble to reply

mdyoung,
<<Probably going to depend on if you have traditional Medicare coverage or through an HMO/PPO.
Medicare Advantage Plans like HMOs and PPOs Called "Part C"
This option combines your Part A (Hospital) and Part B (Medical) Private insurance companies approved by Medicare provide this coverage. Generally, you must see doctors in the plan. Your costs may be lower than in the Original Medicare Plan, and you may get extra benefits.
Original Medicare Plan
Medicare provides this coverage. You have your choice of doctors. Your costs may be higher than in Medicare Advantage Plans
***
Thanks, that is very helpful.
So is it better to go for traditional Medicare in order to see the best specialists and get the best treatment, or do the best specialists only treat the rich and famous?

All,
I'd be interested to know whether people think they get better healthcare through traditional Medicare where you can choose any specialist, or through an HMO/PPO where your costs may be lower and you may get extra benefits, but you may be restricted as to which specialists you can see?
