Default Health Insurance 101

Got here. Move into the new house tomorrow.

Any ideas where to start with health insurance to cover us until Mrs G1ant gets a job. Two of us plus 12 year old arriving in two weeks.

Alex.

Just wonder how many people were thinking the same, I was.

It is a State issue so depends where you are going. And your ages, previous conditions etc etc.

I used Anthem with a $5,000 deductible. Still hurt.

Alex.

I found alot of companies would not take me on till i had been a Resident for 6 months.
Im with Blue cross ,that is now $218 a month just for me. Hubby has insurance through his work.
My deductible is $1000
You need to get a few quotes and see whats best for you.

Well luckily I show as being resident for the past two years as I've been flitting bck and forward a lot before making a final move. So i've been relying on my annual travel policy to cover my trips to the States.

That isn't going to work after his week, so a permanent policy is in order. Just a few names of companies that people have had good luck with is what I'm after. Smart-ass comments I can do without at this stage.

OK, I KNOW it isn't going to be pleasant, but any more unhelpful wisecracks and I'm straight round to your place and burn your bloody flag pole down.

This guys checklist re what to look for might be of use http://www.website101.com/Health_Ins...-Insurance.htm

We are with Carefirst BC/BS PPO which is through my husbands work. They have been fine ie they haven't refused a charge yet. The co pay for in scheme providers is low. it is a minefield really looking for a good non company affiliated company.. Hope someone can suggest a good reasonably priced provider with few exclusions for existing medical conditions etc so forth. Self employed people are probably the most likely to know as they are in a do-it-yourself situation. Good luck!

Hey Hubby and i use anthem/bluecross. Since he's on a 6 month contract to hire. $198 per month for both of us, with a 2g deductible, not huge coverage, but enough that if something where to happen, or if we needed to see a doc, need a prescription etc, we would be covered. Would have been less if i had quit smoking earlier.

Can't emphasise this more -- health insurance providers and what they have to cover are nearly 99% regulated by state and not the federal government.

Very important to know the state in order to give advice.

All varies on age and how many you want insured we have Anthem 1500 deduct no co ins and 20 co pay family 4, 30-35 age category $841 per month
Try esurance.com they will pull up all policies and prices and you can decide what you feel is adequate for your needs.

anthem/blue cross are pretty good...but then again, you can probably find something pretty cheap if just for emergencies, which will have a bit of an arse numbing deductible...but you really do need to say what state your in, and age group....and having a kid will making it pricey too...

depends -- all the good pediatricians are dumping BC/BS here. They won't go on their plan.

Yep -- I know that it's paediatrician. I use whichever spelling I like the best, between the American and British variants. Have since a very young age.
