seems to me that the only person getting worked up is scotintex - everyone else has put forward reasoned points of view and experiences - maybe you are bitter cos you got screwed by a system where others did better than you and can't accept that not everyone else is in the same boat - hang on maybe it wasn't cos they were married, but just actually better than you? I started this just to tell y'all I had a good deal from a US hospital, not to start an argument about union rates of pay!!

BTW I know what my Chief Constable would have said if I had asked him for a raise before I passed the Sergeants' exam!

Although I did once put in for an hour's overtime when I had to work an extra hour on nights due to summer time ending................Inspector told me I was being bloody cheeky and to get out of his office!

If you don't already know that British based Teachers, Surgeons, Bricklayers, Civil Servants, Bin Men, Politicians and everyone else in a legal and above board profession, trade or unskilled labour have established pay rates and bandings for their jobs as laid down by the Government and Trade Unions, then I really don't know what to say. I cannot imagine what kind of job you ever worked at over there or where you might have worked. You will never be paid anything outside your paybanding while you remain in that particular job, which only rises with service.

BTW, accusations of trolling are just silly to me, since I take internet usage very seriously and why not, since having over 50 profitable websites of my own on the go and have built around 5 times that for others (small to medium companies). Perhaps you've even bought something from me without having realised it or I've profited from one of the your many click throughs someplace. Hmm come to think of it if you frequent sites like this one, I'm almost sure of it. End users like you are my bread & butter! Hardly surprising really since I am an IT graduate (Glasgow, Sheffield Hallam, MA Oxford) and well I've been around the internet so long.

Actually, according to you (and I hadn't really thought about it before) I win the right to negotiate my own salary, and make as much money as I am worth, rather than having to wait for people like you to negotiate a better deal for me. Or am I missing something?

Even with pay bands people don't earn the same. I know plenty of people that work in jobs that have pay bands, they can negotiate a raise just as long as it is not above the limit. I did it myself once when I worked in a hospital. I also know for a fact that people doing the same job don't get paid exactly the same amount. I also know people who have worked for the NHS and negotiated their starting salary, in fact if you look on most of their job postings it even says the salary is negotiable up to a certain limit, or at least they did a couple of years ago.
Getting back to the original post. Most healthcare facilities regardless of what they do have more credit adjustments than they do payments. Most will also write off small balances, sometimes a dollar amount sometimes a percentage.

I would also like to add, that when I lived in the UK, I was single with no kids.

I found generally, that the married guys generally worked harder and were better at their jobs because.

a) They had a mortgage
b) were responsible for tiny mouths.

whereas the single lads sometimes couldn't give a toss.
