Have Green Card now but want to Teach. Help!!
 

Hi

I am writing on behalf of my brother, he has been living in Knoxville TN, for around 8 years and is just about to get his green card.

He lives alone with his daughter (From a previous marriage to a US Citizen) and up until now has been doing whatever jobs he can to be able to look after his young daughter.

As she is now older my brother would like to become a teacher, he has a 2.1 Degree from the University of East Anglia in English History and has also spent some time at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville (Doing what I am not sure), but he seems to be coming up against brick wall being told that his qualifications are not recognised.

He is prepared to go back to school (preferably part time) but is worried that he will have to spend time relearning what he already knows.

I write this as a concerned family member and can get further information if required.
If there is any hope or way forward I would be grateful for any information orhelp received.

Hi and welcome to BE. There are companies that will (for a fee) work out what your brother's degree is worth in US terms..you can use the search button at the top of the page to see if there are any threads on this already.
Each State has different requirements. He may also want to look into substitute teaching until he gets it all sorted out (again, not sure what the requirements are where he is, but here in TX you don't need any qualifications to be a sub :ohmy:)
Another option would be to look at the private schools as many of them don't require the same qualifications as public schools.:)
