Default Have been reading about shipping

We will be moving from the UK to the USA sometime this year. My husband is an artist so will taking his framing equipment plus unsold paintings. We will also be taking 2 mini's. Does anyone know if there is a duty on this sort of thing. We will have things shipped after we arrive in the USA. Has anyone taken cars or business equipment? Also my husband has just gotten his immigration visa marriage based. I know it entilties him to work in the US but they didn't say how long visa was good for and I forgot to ask, Will he have to apply for pr after a time. I know after 3 years from date of issue he can apply for citizenship. One thing I will miss about England is a proper pint lol

Holy didgeridoo and welcome to the USA forum! How many questions can you get in such a short paragraph!

I’m going to bed as it’s late in AZ, but before I go I would suggest you give the following additional info so other posters can have a proper stab in the morning with the facts they’ll need!

Minis - give ages and descriptions of both cars,
Business equipment - be more specific especially wrt dual voltage
Visa: Give type - it’ll probably be a K-something, but what,
Marriage - state how long you have been married
Beer - give brand preference

CU in the morning!

LOL sorry about all the questions. Brand of beer Kroenburg draught lol. The mini's are both over 25 years old. But completely redone. Business equipment, framing machine non electric, computer can adapt to USA. Paintings, already painted unframed. We have been married 5.5 years. I have dual citizenship as I have lived in the UK all this time We will receive hubbys passport back Monday with stamp so will know for sure what visa lol. He will activate it in February and green card will be sent to my sister's address in Florida. We were told he could leave or enter USA and UK as often as he wanted so.........Anyway still have to sell the house before we can move. Have a viewer coming tomorrow no chain lol so hope he likes it. I will also miss the Old English Pubs love them

Hi Marilyn from a rather uncharacteristically chilly AZ,

The cars should be financially feasible as classics. There’s some info @ http://www.buyclassiccars.com/import.asp. I often see a RHD cream Mini pottering around our neck of the woods –smart! You’re not going to win the drag race from the lights, but you’ll leave them standing on the corners.

The office equipment listed should all be importable without duty: tools of emigrant’s trade.

There is an excellent forum specialising in marriage visas on this site. If you do not get answers to your questions up here, do re-ask your visa-related questions down there.

Hi and thanks for your reply. This site has been most helpful. Thanks for the links will check it out. Yeah I think it will leave them standing on the corner lol. We thought they would be cheap runabouts and a headturner at that lol. Also will be good advertisement for hubby's art website. The attention will be there and if we have website address on the car...................well you never know lol. From what I have read on the embassy website with an immigration visa you have indefinite leave to stay, but may have to sign a prc. Anyway thanks a bunch
