Has anyone impressed you lately?
Now, I am not easily impressed by anyone or anything, but I have to say that the last 2 times I have seen Ron Reagan Jr being interviewed, he impressed me. Who knew he would grow up to be such an articulate young man. I remember way back when his dad was the Pres, I always thought he was a bit of a nancy boy, into ballet and stuff, but he seems to have grown into himself and matured a great deal. I watched him being interviewed last nite by Dan Rather, or someone of his ilk about stem cell research and he made a lot of sense in what he said.
This is not something I have given a great deal of thought to but he has my vote. The argument that was put forward was that we are supposed to save/preserve life, and that stem cell research would in effect be taking a life. The counter argument Reagan gave was that the war in Iraq is taking lives everyday in order to save lives. I thought that was a fair comment. I have to ask though save us from whom? The last time I looked out my window there were no tanks coming down the street, (except for the tank that belongs to our local sherrif which he bought for his SWAT team and which flattened a car cause they could not make it stop), talk about a comedy of errors. You know the one, he oversees tent city here in the desert, he had Glen Campbell as an inmate recently.
Anyway, I digress. The thing that burns my butt though about this whole thing is why is nothing done until someone rich and famous dies of one of these diseases. What proponents of this want to do is use the unused cells that are created when IVF takes place. Hey they are going to destroy them anyway, is that not the same thing. Why not use them for research. Pay the owners of these cells (after all it costs them thousands of $$$ to have this procedure done) then use them.
Don't know what anyones thoughts are regarding this, just thought it might make an interesting topic. Forgive me if it has been done before.

With you on Ron Reagan Jr. I watched him being interviewed on Larry King and he speaks very well and makes a hell of a lot of sense. It's a shame that he'll never run for office (his own words).
Right now, issues such as Stem Cell Research are being used for votes. Important research is being ignored in favor of getting back in the White House this year. That's the crime.

enjoyed Ron Reagans recent comment about Abu Ghraib prison myself. In the NYT magazine in response to a question about why people seized on his dad funeral so strongly:
"I think it was a relief for Americans to look at pictures of something besides men on leashes. If you are going to call yourself a Christian — and I don’t — then you have to ask yourself a fundamental question, and that is: Whom would Jesus torture? Whom would Jesus drag around on a dog’s leash? How can Christians tolerate it?"
Ahhh another double standard from our baptist friends but remember as GW said recently:
“I trust God speaks through me. Without that, I couldn’t do my job.
— President Bush, during a private meeting with an Amish group.
Hey I am not scared!!!
