But to answer the OP's question: no, i've not run a marathon. i've watched a few movie marathons..does that count?

I did a half marathon many years ago. I'm sure I should have done more training besides playing rugby

I haven't but I used to work with a lady who did. When she was in training, I did ask her why she was running a marathon but she didn't give me an answer so I never knew. I do know that she trained with someone who was supposed to run the marathon with her but I think he dropped out and never ran the race in the end.

She ran the Grandfather Mountain marathon, part of the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games. It is one of the toughest marathons and it was her first marathon. I just checked the results. She came 10th in her in her age group! Wow!

Yeah, I did a half marathon without any training. Silly really. And five years ago.
I'd like to do the big one and would be interested in the experiences of someone who's done it.

Also, no. I have never run a marathon (hence grabbing the low hanging fruit)... I've been to Marathon though.

jeezus...I can only just jog for 20 mins at the gym without my legs buckling underneath me...then I have to go outside and have a fag to help my recovery..

Erm I have a friend who does them. There are a fair few people who run them who live here.... loads of 26.2 stickers on people's cars (or maybe they only drive 26.2 miles :p).

I think the original marathon runner collapsed and died.... which is enough to put me off trying.

yes - and they were called "Marathons" in Britain until about 1990 or so

Kinda half marathons.

I don't run actual races - I just run for myself. In the summer I'll run 8-10 miles every other day. If the weather is great I'll do twice a days.
