Has anyone been stopped and asked to see their Green Card?
Potentially off topic. But I never carry my GC on me and have a copy on my cell phone. Has anyone been stopped and asked to produce their GC? If you didn't have it on you what happened next?

Hasn't happened to me in almost 21 years. I'm a dual citizen, but I don't carry any more than my driver's license and I've never been asked for that outside of using it for picture ID.

Some years ago it happened all the time but I haven't come across it happening recently.

yes. If I visit Big Bend National Park, which is on the Texas-Mexico border, there is a checkpoint on the road there. OH didn't have his GC with him and got a warning letter.

In 2015 we went on a road trip taking I10 from Houston to Santa Monica where our daughter lives. Near El Paso they diverted the whole of the interstate onto a side area where border control checked everyone's documents. Never expected that, but luckily as we were going to be traveling up the California coast and on into Canada we did have our passports with us.

Nope can't say I have, I do carry it though with a copy at home.

Yes, heading north from El Paso I hit a checkpoint. They went to look on the computer and finally found my driving license. I was scrabbling around in my phone to find the picture. I was waiting on a replacement one at this point.

Having recently just got mine, in my letter it said to carry it with me at all times, which is further backed up on https://www.uscis.gov/green-card/aft...n-card-granted
I keep mine with me in my wallet.

Austin is a "sanctuary city" the local PD will not ask for proof of immigration status. But if you're out in the boondocks here, then I'm assuming they will. Especially if you're anywhere near the TexMex border.
I can't be bothered to look it up but the CBP have jurisdiction and can stop you for quite a few miles inland.

Anywhere in the "100 mile border zone" where CBP have authority to do random stops is potentially asking for trouble for not carrying GC, but in particular the southern border (obviously).

Same here, stopped on the road in and back out of Big Bend in 2012.

We travel across West Texas a few times a year ( skiing and camping trips) and I would dearly love to avoid driving those non-motorway roads through those godforsaken towns, however, I have been advised to NOT travel on the highway from Albuquerque to El Paso to join the IH10 to San Antonio - those checkpoints are common, unannounced, a bit scary and there may be a few to navigate on my route that way.

You have to have your passport with you as a dual citizen?

Absolutely. I do not have an American accent, in fact I have a strong Durham accent, so when I am stopped by border control in Texas how else can I easily prove that I am entitled to be there. A Texas driving licence is certainly not good enough.

Job and Gun Purchases are the only 2 I can think of.
