Default Happy July 3

Every so often I take cakes into the office
Took some in today and explained that as tomorrow ( july 4 ) everyone would be off celebrating their Independence as the token Brit I was celebrating the last day we were in charge of the colonial gits

Maybe not historically accurate but it got a lot of laughs and went down well - should we make July3 an official ex-Pats day?

Not historically accurate though. It should be September 3. The United States were granted independence by the Treaty of Paris, signed September 3, 1783. The fact that there was a so-called "declaration" a few years earlier is neither here nor there.

You've got a great sense of humour, I'm sure they appreciated it!

I don't understand why there is a statue of the traitor, George Washington in Trafalgar Square.

We were explaining Guy Fawks to an American last night.

'So we celebrate some bloke trying to blow up the houses or parliament..but we burn him at the end '

She looked uneasy

.... they'll soon have to re-write the national anthem to ...

Spoiler:
"... land of the brave..."

..... but even that's debatable.

Just popping in from the Italy forum. I explained Guy Fawkes Night to the Italians as a national celebration in honour of the last person to enter the Houses of Parliament with honest intentions

that they understood
