Judging by most of the entries my money is on a 30 something female, left wing, liberal, lesbian, social worker whose never had any kids and is kept with daddies money, yah.

Possibly! But I love the femstruate and parasitically oppressed newspeak.

The whole crap about Merry Xmas or Happy Holidays seems a little ridiculous. But it is being heavily pushed by the right's voice (Fúks news and the radio lot) as evidence of the oppression of their faith and Americaness. Think it's a non-issue myself, though I'm quite happy to say Happy Holidays if I know it will irritate them.

What about the dyslexic devil worshippers? Shouldn't they be able to freely worship santa?

I've been far f**king lazier than that in my life and got sod all named in my honour. Bloody scousers, get everything for nothing.
I'll name my next rat after you.... even if it's a girl. Will that be sufficient to honor you?

I work with people over the phone a lot and this year there is a lot of people saying "Happy Christmas" I do say "Happy Christmas" back to them, but if they say "Happy Holidays", I say nothing. If they say Happy Hannukah , I will say it right back. I just can't stand the nothingness of Happy Holidays. There was one woman yesterday who said Happy Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanza or what ever you celebrate to me, we did have a laugh about it as she was saying everything now is just too PC. Last Year most people were saying Happy Holidays, but this year it is different. I think most people are just fed up having to bow down to the PC crowd.

Thanks I had guessed at something of African origin because of the spelling but I'd just never heard of it.

"Of course the great wastage is in the verbs and adjectives, but there are hundreds of nouns that can be got rid of as well... If you have a word like 'good', what need is there for a word like 'bad'? 'Ungood' will do just as well... Or again, if you want a stronger version of 'good', what sense is there in having a whole string of vague useless words like 'excellent' and 'splendid' and all the rest of them? 'Plusgood' covers the meaning, or 'doubleplusgood' if you want something stronger still.... In the end the whole notion of goodness and badness will be covered by only six words; in reality, only one word."

Somebody invented it...and called it Esperanto! Trouble was they used terrible Latin-style grammar to go with it, so it never caught on. Still, it's probably easier than English grammar and our strange peculiarities like phrasal verbs -- a constant source of amazement to learners of our tongue.

Excellent thread! I absolutely loathe 'happy holidays'. What if you don't celebrate any holiday in Nov/Dec e.g. hindus, muslims, buddists and many other religions.

They've even made the song "We wish you a happy holiday (x3), and a happy new year"! Just does not have the same feel good factor.

I asked someone at work if people sings hymns and xmas songs on the streets here (like they do on in our local high street in the UK) and he was horrified saying, no way. He said it wouldn't be very nice for people who don't celebrate christmas. Whatever happened to freedom of religion!

I'd love one of these f**k-wits to explain to me what's not very nice about it.
