Halloween?

Re: Halloween?
A few years back, in the last town we lived in, had some kids in a rush with their mum behind and I asked why the hurry.
She said they were from town x, about 20 miles away but they wanted to hit our town and before it got to late to hit the neighbouring town because people gave much better gifts, sweets and in some cases money.
Cheeky sods.

Haha, this is what my OH does and ignores the doorbell - he said he's not contributing to the obesity problems anymore - he is just plain mean!

Re: Halloween?
Seeing as I've been invited to a party that is likely to be a bit over the top, I have decided on my costume. I don't usually do costumes or make much effort getting dressed up, but I've decided to be a zombie bride and am getting a wedding dress from Goodwill. Going to rip it up and squirt fake blood all over it. Husband is going to go as a groom. Isn't that sweet. Co-ordinating zombie outfits?

Well the thing that's shocking was the distance involved. It's one thing going to a neighbouring town or two if you know you're going to get better swag, but to have to hop onto the motorway and drive 20-25 miles, that's just cheeky

Re: Halloween?
Having lived in an apartment for a couple of years, I'd almost forgotten about the trick-or-treating.
My local small-town bar has an annual party, and I'm going to make the effort as a newcomer.

He got pulled over by the cops on way to a party after a few people had called it in...just a warning about scaring people and public indecency
Was out in Texas though

Why in the name of **** do grown ups still go to fancy dress parties?

As a single bloke in a slightly isolated house on the block, I have certain reservations about encouraging kids to come to my door. On the other hand I don't want to be known as the neighborhood Scrooge. It is quite a dilemma

Either complete darkness or lit and visible like a Christmas tree. I'm assuming (being my first Halloween in the US) that parents are within sight anyway.

Re: Halloween?
Ok, first halloween here. If I have to go traipsing round after my 2 darling children (8 and 11), am I expected to get dressed up too? In the UK, we only ever trick or treated houses of people we knew, or those who - judging by their halloween decorations - clearly wanted visitors.
What's the protocol here? We've only been here 4 weeks. It seems rather rude to be begging for sweets when you meet some of your neighbours for the first time..
