H-1B visa announcement

The great Donald seems to be on track for limiting the H-1B visa programme to give jobs to Americans.

Well, that is a terrible piece of journalism.
"“Why is it taking you five years to get through college?” Phyllis asked a student attending one of her college speeches, of which she gave many hundreds. “Because I changed my major from computer science to accounting after I discovered there are almost no jobs available for computer majors,” the student responded."

No jobs for a computer science grad????? wtf.

I know that there has been a huge discussion about this within the Austin tech people. I imagine they will just do remote working more and/or set up more offices outside of the USA.

Matt Mullenweg ( Mr Wordpress billionaire) has his company automattic with just about everyone working remotely all over the world, just his HQ admin staff in the USA. Sign of things to come.

Well, it's the first time I've seen someone try to bring baseball players into the discussion.

Isn't that exactly the point that tech companies are hiring hordes of H-1Bs not US graduates?

It's funny how often I meet locals here in NC, in the 50-70 age range, whose mother is British!

Yes indeed. You can include myself and my wife and then our English born son and daughter among those English migrants. (Son and daughter both got BSc's in Computer Science in the USA)

The fact I did BEng doesn't count , even though I am in an IT job?

Bringing a wife with you isn't as useful in the drive to take back America though! .... But it's a forgivable error if your son and daughter marry Americans.

Actually our daughter is partnered with an Australian, who also came over to work in IT, although he is a US citizen because he was born there and moved back to Oz as a small child where he was educated and trained in IT. So not strictly an immigrant despite his broad Oz accent.
