Out of interest, do they break the quote down by the skill needed, I.e 10 000 nurse, 10 000 IT blokies etc?

Where did you come by that info also, there are always rumors that its filled, quota has gone down....?

there is no breakdown of the quota.
however nurses are not subject to the cap at all. indeed fasttracked I believe once they have all their ducks in a row (RG will surely correct me if I am wrong)

the H visa quota went down from 65,000 to 56,000

No! Read the .pdf that BritGuyTN linked to and you'll see that H1-Bs that are extending their visa, changing the terms of their H1-B employment, applying for a change in employer, or a concurrent second H1-B employer are exempt from the cap...

...which is pretty bloody lucky, or we'd all be out of here no our respective ears!

I still can't believe that I was blissfully unaware of all this H1-B cap business when I got mine just last year. Just a couple of months later, and I wouldn't have got one that year. Just a year later, and I'd be caught up in all this race-to-apply-before-the-cap-is-reached nightmare!
