Have a butchers here: packing.org/georgia the gun laws in GA seem even more relaxed than Florida

i went into a liquor store in georgia, and the guys that worked there were all carrying handguns on holsters. they told me that i was legal to carry a gun in a holster on the street. because its not considered a concealed weapon. this seems a bit odd as i never see guys walking around atlanta or georgia with handguns in holsters. surely its against the law?

It's probably not strictly against the law. That said, don't expect to walk around carrying openly and not get some unwanted attention from the police, not to mention concerned citizens. It's also not a very wise move for defense, having everyone know that you are armed makes you a target. It's like walking around with hundred dollar bills sticking out of your back pocket. Some one with evil intent just knows to shoot you first with no warning. You lose the element of surprise.

Apparently the gun laws in Illinois are relatively strict... but then how would a baby get a gun permit?

It's illegal in some states to carry concealed weapons in establishments that sell or serve liquor. Maybe it's illegal in GA, maybe it's not. I wouldn't trust the word of a stranger. Best do an internet search to verify.

Basically, there are no age restrictions on obtaining a Firearms Owners IDentification (FOID) card, which is required in IL to own a firearm. There are age restrictions on purchasing a firearm.

Better yet, talk to your local law enforcement agency. And take the name of the person you talk to.
