Default Green card lotter, anyone tried it?

Hey, has anyone tried the green card lottery? Love to know if you were successful (or not!)

Are you a British citizen? If so, you cannot enter the green card lottery.

I've never seen someone post in this forum that has got into the US this way.

Then unless you marry a USC, get sponsored to work over there or invest in a business you have little chance of getting here. The obvious answer is to get the ball rolling on your dad sponsoring you then you can sponsor your son.

Not quite right if you are a Uk citizen born in Northern Ireland you can enter. I knew lots of people who did it every year for years but only one i knew actually won and he opted not to go in the end.

Oh, and why were all those people entering the lottery each year if they weren't serious about comming to the US?

They were considering it and most of my friends had they won they would have come. Just had one mate who had just got a place at University and then got the lottery green card offer. he opted for the uni degree instead. several thousand enter every year from NI around 20 get one so when you enter you dont expect to win. and its only when you do that you have to really make a choice.

Duncan

After you have won you still have to meet criteria, you don't just get given the card if you win the lottery. The rules of immigration that apply to you and me also apply to them. They have to pass a medical, pass the criminal record test, be able to support themselfs etc, etc. Out of all the people that win the lottery only a percentage end up coming. They have to start from zero, for some people it is a big step to take.
