British too, one presumes, if you're from Northern Ireland?

You may be in luck as your Irish passport may give you a 12 month working holiday opportunity once the new agreement is fully in place:

And as long as you were born in Northern Ireland, or somewhere else that is DV-eligible, then it wouldn't hurt to apply for the DV Lottery. I believe the current lottery is still open.

Is your degree accredited by the Engineering Council United Kingdom for CEng purposes (Washington Accord)?

other problem would be getting certified over in the US...only looking for a year, best off looking for cad monkey work, but it'll be a tall order...get more experience in and really ask yourself what you plan to gain from the US.

I would suggest that you try somebody like AMEC, who have offices over here. I also agree with Ray, that you need some experience, probably at least 3 years. There are a lot of engineering companies in the USA, and I know that some have been cutting back in most fields. Right now, it is not a good time to try and get a job in design engineering here.

In addition to what JAJ said, you are not an 'engineer' until you have professional experience. Right now you are an engineering student and when you graduate you will be a graduate engineer.

Right now you have zero experience and no degree. Too early to be asking for employment in the US.

I work for an engineering firm in Arizona, and there are hiring freezes going on all over the engineering field here.
