Re: Going over to Mexico
We needed to hit a specific kind of pharmacy; we let the shill take us in the first one, showed him what we were after, got referred to the correct place 4 doors down, grabbed our stuff and done. Oh, and I remembered the coffee lady who was just around the corner so we went an extra two blocks, saw her & left. I told Himself beforehand what it was going to be like and not to be gawking around with his mouth hanging open like some tourist. We were spare changed, hit with a story from some guy looking for phone card money etc.. just have to look like you know where you're going and that you're not there to shop for souvenirs.
DH cracked us all up with his American 'yup', practiced for when he was driving through the checkpoint. I didn't want to carry passports on principle (this was on the US side.. you must carry to cross). I'll tell you what though, it was an education. I don't think people who live outside the region can be qualified to comment on the situation until they've seen it first hand. Literally thousands of Border Patrol. Vehicles of all types everywhere (mounted patrol!), electronic surveillance, helicopter hovering 100 yds away for 30 minutes. It's crazy, and all these BP dudes rent at my sister's condo place.. they aren't allowed to 'fraternize' with the 'locals' at all. It can't be good.

I've been hearing that Laredo is very sketch, but you know how it is.. it only takes one moment to be wrong, out of thousands that are all right.

Re: Going over to Mexico
Btw, I like to travel as much as the next guy (fiances permitting) but I also don't want to go where its not safe. So if you go, please be careful, don't go knocking on people's doors....
