Glamour Shots???

Please do not take offense!
In my opinon as someone with a degree in photography, all that makeup, soft focus, big jewelry and even bigger hair is like putting a gaudy frame around a beautiful picture. In my view, it detracts rather than enhances your natural beauty.
But when it comes downn to it's a matter of differing taste. My taste tends towards the elegant, simple and understated. I think any real photographer, using only a couple of lights or even natural light could make a picture of you that would change your mind as to the quality of Glamour Shots work.
BTW, you were 14 in one of those pics? Good lord, you could have caused trouble...

Re: Glamour Shots???
Wow, I don't think we paid that much! Not over $350. Although I can see how someone can, easily. They take like 16 shots, four shots in four outfits. I think the first time I had them done I had a coupon and got a free sitting fee and discounted portfolio thingy. It had a 3 x 5 of each pose in a cardboard foldy frame. Then I picked out my favorite two or three for bigger prints.
Senior pics I just got two 8x10s, one for each parent, in a nice wooly sweater pose, and then lots of wallets in my three other faves for giving out. Not too expensive, not more than we would have spent had we bought the rubbish pics from the local guy.

Oh, no offense taken! I agree that a natural look is more beautiful than a made up one. The whole fun of Glamour Shots is the "movie star makeover" though, you want to be made up showy. I will say this though, I don't think I've ever had a decent photograph taken anywhere...I always hate my pictures when they come out. I love soft focus, black and white, anything that adds a bit of artsy-ness. Other pics I've had just look too harsh, too bright...I don't know. My original senior pics were done by a professional and they looked terrible to me - maybe I'm not photogenic.
That probably only fuels the argument that GS is for people who can't take decent pics otherwise.
The left one was when I was 14, the right one is one of my senior pics (I was trying for the "Titanic" pose, lol).
And apologies! for hijacking this thread! I'm gonna stop replying for a little while so other people can talk!

Re: Glamour Shots???
I must make it clear that I am totally un-bias in this (he he) but, in my opinion, my wife looks great in the pics as she does all the time. I wouldn't want her to walk around all day looking like that of course (it would just make me look even uglier than normal ha ha) but it is just a bit of fun. A bit of expensive fun granted but I am sure there are people on BE who spend a lot more money on just as frivolous things.
I will start to worry when she wants to get the goldfish done (which is possible, you know what these americans are like haw haw)
