Is there a reason for giving bonuses in the form of gifts? I got taxed on my monetary bonuses; the money was treated as salary. Initially it amazed me to get any bonus at all, I never had one back in blighty. I couldn't get over a $2,000 bonus. Blew me away.
But to put this in context, attending law school (even part-time was like, hellishly expensive, I ended up owing the best part of $100k … and still have over $60k to pay back!)

I would like to give my employees $500 bonuses next year. I don't have any employees at the moment ... so my bank manager will not be flipping out any time soon.

But it comes down to the economy "stupid" (quote from Ms. Dole); right now the economy is picking up ... if it tanks again the bonus will be you have a job.

Hi

I got a $150 gift voucher for Marshall Fields and an extra $200 in cash. I've only been there for 5 months so I expect that the staff that have been there for 10 years and over got more than that. We were all taken out (around 35 people) for a very nice French meal all expenses paid, spouses included too. This is a doctor office that I work in. I was quite surprised but I'm not complaining! My hubby got $100 to spend on a meal for us both from his company as we couldn't attend the Christmas party in Boston!

You could always hire youself, give youself a nice signing on bonus as well as paying yourself the finders fee. Then give yourself a Christmas pressie and lay yourself off in the New Year with a decent severance package. The possibilites are endless.

Lucky here. The year end bonus is your work review average times 1,000. The scores are 1 to 5. Personally from my three bosses, last year I got a $100 American Express Giftcard from one, a $200 AEG from the other and the third gave me a gift card for 5 manicures at my favorite salon.

Personally know of one small NY law firm that takes all the employees and their families to the Caribbean for 4 days all expenses paid. Now there is a nice Xmas present.

As a "Thank You" for his hard work this year, my spouse was nominated by his manager's manager to go the annual company "university" (I think that's what it's called) that's held every year.

About 4 weeks ago, he was informed that he was selected to attend so he'll be in Las Vegas for a week in January. It's far from fun and games 'cos he'll be attending talks, seminars and workshops for five days flat out.

Well the worst of it is that he has to share a room with a complete stranger (a fellow employee). I trust that this will be someone of the same sex...
