Gifts from your bosses.

Just wondered what is the norm, my wifes bosses gave her a $25 Sprawl Mart card. Her work colleagues are moaning saying their friends have got plasma tv's and $1000 gift cards etc. What do you get?

Are you talking about holiday or year's end bonuses? I've gotten year-end bonuses that were that were $1k (*sniffle*...those were the days... ;) ), but they were just added to my paycheck...never in the form of gifts or gift cards.

Plasma TVs?

Funnily enough, just since I got to work today, my manager and her manager have both given me Christmas presents.

My manager gave me two gifts. One was homemade brownies (creme de menthe) and something giftwrapped in a box. I appreciate both gifts even though they are small in monetary value (I assume the boxed item is. If not, I'll let you know).

The brownies were made by hand by manager and they were made from the heart. That's what matters to me. It's not significant to me that I'll consume her gift (actually, on the tag she specified that they're for both me and my spouse).

As for her manager's gift to me, I've no idea what it is and I won't know 'cos I won't open it till Christmas Day (actually, more like after Christmas since I'm out of town on Christmas Day). It's certainly no plasma screen TV!

I also don't expect anything either.
If he gave me a plasma TV I'd think he was crazy.

My boss usually gives us some cool pin or something. Never anything too expensive- we all work for a non profit so if she gave me a plasma tv, I'd probably think she was nuts and wonder how much she was getting paid this year!! We never exchange anything too expensive- my coworker made cookies, I always make something crafty- handmade but cheap ;) Today is our work party, and we're going to do a white elephant gift exchange for $5...and they feed us lunch usually ;)

I was talking about a Christmas present. It's not something either of us has had before as we both worked for the State in the UK and as such didn't get the steam off managers you know what. The people giving the presents are Doctors/Consultants I was just wondering if it was just a bit of BS aimed at the new girl or are these gifts actually given out? We are pleased she has got something not bitching about how much just couldn't believe these were given out.

Hubby got a $200 restaurant voucher for a swanky place in Boston. So we got that going for us. Which is nice.

My husband and I both work at the same print company (different departments). At our annual Christmas party the company gave every worker a gift card. Patrick and I each got $30 to Target, but I know that other people got cards worth $175. (Last year they did it differently though...they pulled about 5-6 names out of a hat and those people got gift cards. My husband was one of the people so we got a $125 gift card to a fancy restaurant.) In addition to that the GM gave me a candle and candle jewlery from Pier 1, and my husband a $10 gift card to Mellow Mushroom (pizza place). So those are the presents we got from the company as well as the boss.
In addition a lot of the employees hand out presents as well...like little bags with hand-made treats, Christmas tree ornaments, cards, etc. Oh, and the company also provides a lunch. This year we had really fancy stuff: shrimp, salmon, tender loin, champagne punch, etc. Yummy! :)

My wife is a purchasing agent so her company gets gifts from the reps. Mainly gift cards for best buy, local places to eat, gas cards and the like ranging from $20-50 plus other little bits and bobs. I on the other hand got a voucher for a free turkey valued up to $15!
When I used to sell shoes one lady came in with a $1000 gift card and she told us that her company has 7 employees and they all get a $1000 gift card at christmas, we all decided we worked for the wrong company!
