Getting your heat on? :/

So now it's getting a bit chilly out...who's got the heat on?

Me, holding out for as long as possible, still have windows open and need to bring in the window AC units but I'm putting it off because I can't be arsed with pulling down the storm windows and getting the caulk gun out and sealing the windows back up and all the other faff about sealing the windows up properly with draft excluder's and the like. :/

Not round here yet. Usually it's the first week of November before we need the heat on. We're still running the AC for half an hour or so in the evening to clear a clammy feeling in the house.

Beautiful October weather, no frost yet so we still have the garden going etc. Days are up in the seventies, but nights are getting cold. It's going down to the mid fifties in the house in the evening .. so some evenings we've been weaklings, and turned the heat on for an hour or so!

We just got an oil delivery, they managed to squeeze 15 gallons into the tank. That must be what we've used since they topped us up late spring.

We're just now getting where we put a quilt on top of the sheet at night, but we still kick it off in our sleep.

It's not to bad down our way, getting close to a frost. Over night it's in the high 30's, low 40's if we're lucky and the days are mid 50's and 60's.

The kids are still running around in their swimming costumes or what not around the gaff.

How much is the oil costing you these days? I certainly don't miss the $300-450 a month oil bill for winter when we last had oil heat. Gas is much cheaper...even if NStar are complete muppets.

We brought in the window A/C units two weeks ago and switched the boiler on. I finally heard it fire today. My kids are still mostly wearing shorts though.

They're running gas pipelines here in the next year or two, then I'm going to switch our 24 year old oil boiler for a gas boiler and hopefully save some money.

The 24/7 operation through Watervile and Norridgewock are evil...but the rate they're going, should be pretty quick :D

Still shorts and T weather, though the kids are now wearing long legs in the morning. Try and hold out till November, mostly because I don't fancy dragging up the cases from the basement for the winter clothes and dealing with switching that stuff around either :o

Oil is cheaper now, I just paid $3.699. Last winter we were paying $4.10. Our heating bills are horrendous, about $6,000 a year for oil. And we have a wood stove too ...

We're still a way off needing heat yet. Still have the ceiling fans running, and the ac kicks in now and them when we get over 80 inside. Cooling off overnight, but think just to the mid 60's, but wife went round and put all the duvets in the covers this week. Too early to my mind, so I sleep on top.

AC is still on all day here in Charleston, SC. Would love to live where there are actual seasons instead of 10 months of heat!

You need to move about 200-300 miles due north. We have typically one month (+/- two weeks) in the spring and autumn when we have low or negligible use of heat or AC, four months when some heat is required, and five months when AC is required. Seems like the perfect balance. :)

Yes, although I'm loving the crisp New England autumn days, I do hate this "in-between" weather time when you never know what to wear. We've hauled some winter clothes boxes up from our basement, so we can pull out heavier jackets & jumpers for the cold evenings and early mornings, but we're still basically wearing summer clothes for much of the day.

I think lots of people are confused. We went into town for a stroll last night and the people-watching was fascinating! Some folks were bundled up in high winter boots and parkas, some others in shorts, sandals, and light hoodies.... :D Weather schizophrenia!
