getting insurance

Can anyone help me out? I've had my driver's licence and motorbike licence for 20 years and have 7 years of no claims. Is this going to help me out any when gettting insurance in the States? How does it work in the States? I'm not going to have to pay excedingly high rates because I'm going to be a new policy holder am I?

Unfortunately, there is no definitive answer for you. The rates will depend on the insurance company you are dealing with. Get a copy, if at all possible, of your driving record in the UK and a record from your insurance company to verify your claim of being a "good" driver.

Our insurance company accepted my husband's word for it on his Canadian driving record.

There was no additional charge to my auto insurance when adding my alien husband this year. YMMV; call/email the insurance agent. If you're getting your own policy (new) and don't want it tied to an American's account, shop around plenty. Rates vary alot.

Hi,

I just recently went over and found and insurer who will accept the green part of your UK drivers license as proof of a clean driving record. We have not got any no claims but at least we have the advantage of almost 20 years experience being taken into account.
