Getting a Florida driving license

Hi everyone,

I'd like to share my recent experience of getting a Florida driving license. I'm in the US on a J-1 visa and I have a UK license, and am over 18 (the last two bits are important for testing...) So, since I am over 18 with a license from another country, I was exempt from the Florida DATA exam (drug and alcohol). Also, being over 18, I could not do the written tests online.

I made no appointments, and passed the written and practical tests the same day! The written is very easy, and the handbook where the questions cone from is free online via the FL DMV website. The practical was on a closed course behind the test office... piece of cake compared to the British test.

I just want to let people know to not be daunted, you don't nees the DATA course - despite what some fake websites say eg. floridadmv.org etc. The only part that cost money was getting the license ($48), the theory test was free.
