My general practitioner will not undertake PAP smears etc...I have to see an OBYGN. I have a breast exam, urine test, PAP smear and from time to time a rectal exam...I have never had a blood test.

That's exactly what hubs did. He went to my doc which is exactly that. He said it was over before he realized that it had even started.

Do you have to produce pay-stubs? That would be a massive invasion of privacy.

I didn't avail myself of the service, but I believe there's an application form on their website ...looks like you need to give lots of documentary evidence if you want the cheapo prices:

They basically say, if it's too much trouble, oh well, you can pay the full fees.

To the OP, for what it's worth I used PP when I was a college student and what is described above was not at all my experience. Yes, you would need an exam and yes a pap smear will likely be involved. I wouldn't expect PP to rake you over the coals or to be unprofessional. Hope it works out well.

I wasn't saying that the Doctor was being unprofessional, just that be careful of what you say because before you know it, you will have tests galore. Mention that you have painful periods, you will get tests. Mention you are hormonal before your period, you will get tests.

Like another poster here, when I first came here my regular GP didn't do contraceptive services and I had to go OB/gyn. They are a different kettle of fish to your normal doctor and much more aware of problems you may or may not be having. They do not accept as they tend to in the UK, that periods can be painful, they want to know why and if they can, they will find out. why. My doctors over here have been excellent but they will do tests that you will not get UK, mainly to protect themselves from possible lawsuits. In Texas for some reason, you will always get a digital rectal exam when you have your annual screening.

I was just pointing out to the OP that going for a prescription for your first visit, might not be a simple write out a script as they do in the UK. Subsequent visits are not such a problem unless like me age catches up with and other issues arise.

And yes, most times, I am taken to the examine room, vitals taken by nurse and then left for what seems like ages for the Doctor to arrive. Hours was an exaggeration and meant as joke. The Doctor wasn't being unprofessional, its just the way the system works.

Fair enough. PP isn't a normal doctor's office, however. I'm admittedly a little defensive about that organization. Full disclosure: my best friend is a Medical Director at PP.

You need to go to a doctor (or planned parenthood clinic and wait for hours with teeny boppers and women down on their luck) to get a new prescription. You can't just get them over-the-counter. You may be able to order them from out of the US that way though. Here's a couple of sites I found http://www.inhousepharmacy.com/bcp-h...gynon30ed.html
