Has anyone done this?

I want to take an adolescent cat from the uk to Grenada in the caribbean. The caribbean end isnt an issue, i can fly BA or Virgin direct from Gatwick, the questions are really around the draconian uk or eu?

Approx how much does it cost?

Which company have you used to arrange it?

Any complications or issues you are aware of?

I did hear that if i fly from france it might be much simpler, but i would end up flying via jfk i guess which would i suspect complicate matters though i also hear animals on us flights are very cheap/easy??

Since Grenada is a sovereign country and not part of the US... I have to wonder why you're asking the question here? I see you've already gotten some responses to a similar question posted in the Caribbean forum.

Its here for a reason - In that forum they said ask here, its really questions about the uk end - process - good agents - costs - there are some choices avoiding the uk that people might have used - the uk is very tight on this - and very few people take pets to gda - whereas tthe us...

Grenafa arrival is well understood and not an issue, hundreds of dogs fly in annually as we have a big american vets school...

We don't usually allow duplicate threads as they become confusing...therefore I will close the thread in the Carabbean forum.

If you fly a cat out of the UK it must go in the hold. Fly from France, other EU countries...the airline may allow you to transport it in the cabin.

I'm hearing about 2000 as a cost, anyone have any recommendations as to agents or lower [ouchie] estimates on cost?

As I posted earlier...fly from an EU country using an airline which allows small pets in the cabin. If flying via the US...most US airlines allow small animals in the cabin (with certain restrictions)...check with the airline. Also check if there are restrictions taking cats into Grenada. Much cheaper than transporting the cat in the hold.

We brought a 1 year old cat to Cayman last August
Cost was about 1k
They have to go in the hold and spend the night before at Heathrow
As far as I know they can only fly out of Heathrow
We used a company called Airpaws and they were excellent
You need to get the paperwork all sorted beforehand because there is a risk the animal can be destroyed if it's not all sorted properly

It flew in the cabin with me from heathrow to toronto then onto grenada. Cost about 100 pounds. Air Canada are the first to implement this, apparently the uk air authorities have nothing against it, they offered the airlines a starter scheme but so far only air canada has taken them up on it. Heathrow hate it, because its change abd they cant rip you off, and their staff appear like a deer in the headlamps most of the time, but they have to join the real world.

We took our cat from Gatwick to Orlando last November directly with Virgin Atlantic and their pet team.

They were extremely helpful and reassuring and the cost was roughly £600.

I'd encourage you to consider them before spending much more on a specialist company that would be more expensive and that I would consider unnecessary.
