General Brit in US - Tax Question

We are looking to set up our budgets, for when my husband (on an O-1) and myself (on an O-3 visa) move to the USA.

He will be working for an American company full time. I am not eligible to work.

Please can anyone tell me what the tax brackets are in the USA and how much my husband can look at being taxed on his earnings, when in the USA for a year?

Many thanks.

Not easily, no. There is state as well as federal income tax to consider, with state income tax deductible against federal income tax. There are also other things that can be deducted, though if you're only here for a year, mortgage interest isn't likely to be part of your tax comp.

I would say that at $60,000 you'd probably lose about 20% to income tax and social security (NI), rising to about 25% at $100,000. That would be in a moderate income tax state charging about 5% income tax.

Thanks - I had a feeling it would be quite a hefty % towards the income tax and SS.

We are moving to PA so I'm not sure if that is a 'moderate income tax state'?
You are correct that mortgage interest isn't part of our tax comp. though.

Many thanks again for your help.

Depends on the state and the salary. You can google the state to find their tax rate.

Figure it'll be about the same as what you pay in the UK...might be a few % less or more depending on the details.
