With gas at $3/gallon I think a lot more of us will telecommute more often.

I was out last night - some places were at 3.19/gallon. There were places that were still at about 2.80 and there were lines of cars waiting to fill up at those ones. Haven't seen anything like it since the problems in the UK in 2000 with the pickets outside the fuel depots.

It's completely ridiculous. Yesterday afternoon, I baulked at paying $2.69 but two hours later, the price was $2.89 :scared:

It was $2.61 here in Connecticut two days ago. Last night it was $2.99. God knows what it is today. Is there a reason why the prices are suddenly going up? I mean is there an oil refinery in New Orleans I didn't know about? I thought this was the world's richest country and so I presumed that we could afford to finance a rescue effort in one part of the country without the rest of the infrastructure falling apart. When you think about it, a lot less gas will be used now as no one in New Orleans or Mississipi can drive anywhere at the moment!

I paid $2.61 yesterday afternoon (late) at Costco. The highest I saw was $2.73 at a Chevron station near our house. I'm betting it will go a bit higher.

Price gouging would be my number one theory. Especially with some of the prices I saw on tv last night. :scared:

Might be something to do with this, not widely reported on the news for some reason

Aye, that's what I heard....but still...what's the point in having an oil reserve if you don't use it in an emergency?

Plus this price hike is supposed to be a short term thing until things get back on line, but somehow I doubt that'll happen till after labour day weekend...

*lol* I think it has more to do with the fact that oil production in the Gulf of Mexico has come to a complete standstill

Price update for you... This morning I saw the same garage at $3.77 per gallon.

Here's a question for you... The price of fuel went up $5 per barrel following the arrival of Katrina... I'm not sure exactly how much is in a barrel, lets say 50 Gallons (although it is probably more)...

Per Gallon, that is in increase of 10c!?!?!?!?!?! Where has the other 60c come from?

Are the gas companies screwing us for as much as they can during a state of emergency or am I just being cynical?

Very proud of my fellow drivers.... we are driving without aircon which does save gas. That's with a forecast high of 97 F today.

My hair is blown to sh*t but who cares?

I think it's called price gouging the best thing is to not buy the gas...postpone Labour Day travels and just not consume so much gas...if we don't buy it then the prices will have to come down....or at least that's what they're telling us............

I don't think I'll take you up on that bet!! Once they realise that people are not complaining about $3.30 per gallon, they may reduce it a little bit to make it look like they actually care. People will then breath a big sigh of relief about the bones the oil companies throw back to us... That amount will then become the base mark (I doubt it will go back below $3 per gallon).
