Furniture

Where do you buy furniture from? I'm wanting an oak sideboard similar to this

http://www.marksandspencer.com/Sonom...elated-items-3

but everywhere I look all the furniture is really dark, heavily varnished and old fashioned. I can't think of anywhere else to look. The only place I can find anything that is fairly modern is Crate and Barrel and their prices are crazy.

Have you tried overstock.com?

I could help if you lived in Houston...
Sorry, don't know of any national stores that stock that kind of furniture.

Yes, they don't have anything

Unfortunately, you will pay a premium for 'european' furniture here. :(
I had great difficulty when trying to fit out my office here and not have humongous great dark wooden desks with hutches over them. That seems to be the norm here...

Arhaus have some lovely stuff.

When we lived in Maine, we just went to a local furniture place, who got a lot of stuff from local makers.

Never heard of them. Just looked on their website and they have some nice stuff at a good price, no oak sideboards though. Bookmarked them for some other stuff though. Thanks

 $2k+ for a sideboard, and they are all dark, varnished ones.

Yes it's a problem. The only place I would think of that had something similar would be Crate and Barrel however this doesn't have as much detail on it as the M&S one:

Yes, that's the one I had seen. But the price is more than I want to pay.

I liked Urban Home when we lived over there, but they are local to the Oxnard area.

Well yes, they're not cheap, but they are fantastic quality :D

You have to check the local stores out if you have one as they do have a good range of stuff and usually pretty good clearance sales now and again...but yeah, pricey :D

Best bet for anything decent is still a local indie furniture place...or looking for cheap, get something commissioned at a local technical school? I know the vocational highschool next town over has carpenter students working on furniture for people for a little over cost, to partially fund some of the classes, so that might be worth a look?

If you're near any of these: http://www.livingspaces.com/ we bought everything we needed in one hit and had it delivered the day we moved into the apartment. They had a huge range of furniture.

Yes I like one of the Crate and Barrel bookcases but it's a bit too much.
