I just thought i'd pop you my opinion as a 21 year old!

I would take him to either Seattle or Chicago. I spent last summer and Christmas in Chicago and there is so much to do for everyone. Whatever he and your are into you will find things-a range of museums-most of which are fun rather than boring hehe! Lots of shopping and things to climb and see etc-

Seattle I was there a few years ago but once again it has a lot-over all Chicago definetly rocks!
