Freighter/Containership type travel? experience?
just wondering if this is feasible alternative to air travel. I am aware that it is much slower with port stops, weather, etc...

I saw a documentary and read a few articles about it a couple of years back. It found its way onto my " after the kids have gone" bucket list. Definitely something I'd like to try, once I've got the time to mosey my way somewhere at a leisurely pace rather than the rush and bustle of school and work schedules.

I have looked into it as a alternative, its more expensive and if you have pets you are limited to Cunard lines. It also depends on where you wish to arrive stateside. I realised that we would arrive on the dock with all our stuff no transport and we would still be several hours from our new home

thanks for the link!
My grandparents used to travel to the Canary Isles during winter in the 50's on 'tomato boats'. When we picked them up, they were loaded with crates of tomatoes!!
I was basically looking into seeing if there were any direct routes US to UK but not really. I'll need a spare few months to while away to get there.
