I have had a Google voice number for several months and it is a superb service.

The free phone calls are great. And its only 2 cents per minute to call the UK.

It's only a story in the UK since it's the exact same service that Google Voice has been offering for some time now, as Cranston says.

Not sure what they are trying to do.....since there's a premium for calls to mobiles in the UK the pricing model just doesn't work for setting up a GV service in the same manner as it is set up here.

GV has been a godsend since before my fantastic long distance provider ceased trading yesterday. Now if I could just get my mum to text me on the GV number, I'd be quids in!

I know....me and the FIL both have Droids and only ever give out our GV number now, never the real one. Unlimited free texting using the GV app....

Also, as a tip for others, if you call a lot of folks in a certain area there is likely one GV access number for most or all of them...if you check your phone as you hit dial when you use GV, you'll see what that number is. Putting that access number and your own GV number in your friends and family numbers means that calls to and from your phone don't even come out of your bundled minutes. :thumbup:
