Default Free News channels in US

Hi, I was wondering what is the best way to watch some news channels here in the US for free. I have cable internet from comcast and watch a lot of stuff online from youtube and xfinity/comcast but don't want to pay for TV channels. Whats the way to watch some local news channels over the internet or free to air?

Go old school: set-top rabbit ears, or a garden rake on the roof.

Plenty of the news stations have stuff streamed online.

Plenty of free over the air channels you get from a aerial will get you news the old fashioned way.

Plenty of threads, almost daily, on how to get UK TV streamed over here, it's all the same principle.

Perhaps have a search, again?

I can do that. My apartment has plenty of TV outlets I can try plugging in the cable in them. Currently we are using cable internet through one of the outlets. If none of them works I will put the rabbit ears.

But which channels are available free on the air?

ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox, plus their local affiliates in most major markets.

Depending where you live (urban or rural) you should be able to receive some or all of the local channel affiliates, NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX. You will also probably get a bunch of Spanish language channels, some religious channels and a couple of shopping channels.

If you get a Roku or Apple TV, then you will have a whole lot more channels, most without any monthly subscription. Sky News is available for free on Apple TV.

I am the Chicago area, Naperville to be precise. Its on the west side of Chicago. Is that urban enough? We have internet/electricity/gas and other such amenities

If you want news, then tune into a UK station by one of the various means possible. The US news networks aren't bothered too much with news, it gets in the way of biased opinion!

We are discussing the technicalities of receiving the signal for now... Will discuss this stuff with you sometime later.

It has to be a digital antenna, something like this http://www.amazon.com/HomeWorx-HDTV-...igital+antenna Rabbit ears unfortunately will not work any more. The <$10 investment should be the answer to your question. If it doesn't work you can always return it.

Yes, that is what I anticipated. A quick search on ebay displays some for < $5.

And PBS and the CW.

If you want to watch news OTA in the US that isn't total crap, the only way to do it is watch BBC World News and PBS Newshour on PBS. Some local channels show half an hour of BBC World News as well.
