Fred Thompson for President???
Never heard of the guy until today... Is this an indication of what a joke the presidency has become?
"Hollywood actor Fred Thompson, who has been tantalising his Republican supporters, today all but declared his intention to run for the White House.
In an interview with USA Today, the 64-year-old politician-turned-actor said he had already made his mind up and would test the waters in the coming weeks.
Mr Thompson, whose folksy persona has won him comparisons with Ronald Reagan - still revered by Republicans, would join a crowded Republican field where no candidate has truly won the enthusiasm from the grassroots."

Well our current US senator bob corker is a particularly nice liberal chap
a friend of mine who is a lobbyist, and gay, contacted him regarding whether he would vote in favour of a bill that would make gays a protected category within 'hate-crimes' legislation
I would have thought that in 2007 it would not be the worst thing ever to make 'gay-bashing' a crime
he did however reply back that he would vote against the bill

He had been a senior and famous Senator for a long time. He's also a well known character actor and an established Washington insider (he recently led the process to find the next Chief Justice, for example)...
Also, he is known for the line "Yer average Russkie don't take a dump without a plan, son."
Having said all of that, I don't think there's any way he'll win the nomination.

Re: Fred Thompson for President???
He was an attorney who was one of the main counsels on the Watergate hearings. His face became very familiar to those watching the Congressional hearings in the 1970s. He was a US attorney and also worked on the Tennessee Parole Board in a case that brought down the governor of Tennessee for corruption. He then got some bit parts in movies while working as a lobbyist and attorney. Then Senator, etc...
His bio is probably a lot fuller than some other people in the race.

That's a lie. Bush was able to "Keep good relations with the Grecians.", let the "Kosovians can move back in." However "The only thing I know about Slovakia is what I learned first-hand from your foreign minister, who came to Texas." ( when speaking to the Slovenian Prime Minister)
