Re: Frankfurt - anyone transferred thro it?
They're all Star Alliance partners, so you will almost certainly not have to change terminals Also your checked in baggage should be interlined to your final destination....although with all those flights you might want to take some spare knickers in your hand luggage in case your suitcase doesn't get to Manchester at the same time that you do LOL!
Oddly enough, I heard that British Airways is going to take over British Midland. I guess it will end up becoming obsolete like British Caledonian did. However, BA is in the OneWorld alliance, which is a kind of competitor...
Out of curiosity I just checked online and yes, BA is going to buy BMI from Lufthansa:

If you go to Phoenicia on Westheimer on a Wed/Thur morning you always seem to hear Teesside or Newcastle accents. It's very peculiar.

Re: Frankfurt - anyone transferred thro it?
Just had a connection in Frankfurt yesterday (United from Dusseldorf via FRA to Washington, DC). Did not have to change terminals. Freaked out because we were landing at Gate A something and I needed Gate Z something, but it was actually very close, and had no problems. I had a 50 minute connection and made it with time to spare. We did have a jetway.

Guess it all depends where the manchester flight lands and the San Fran flight takes off from

Have you checked Flightstats yet? It shows actual gates used day by day and also stats regarding on-time performance per flight. While gates may change over time and even on the day, at least you can get a handle as to which gate those flights are arriving and departing fron right now and their relative distance from one another.

Here I am in uk...great flight from San fran to frankfurt...we were 15 mins early.it is indeed confusing..I just followed my gate letter B ..till I came to a train and then it had Bc which threw me....went back and asked someone and they said get on...so I did and ended up at Manchester gate...having stood in flight for Budapest and getting blank looks when I asked if it was the queue for Manchester. It wasn't too bad but I wont use this route again ad it added hours..I still had 3 hours train journey from manchester
Announcements were all in English after German and loo was clean...from Manchester to middlesbrough was a bit grim tho...rainy and bleak after the redwoods!!!
I would say if u use frankfurt be sure to have enough time...the walk was long and it took a while to get through security
