Question Ford Escape or Toyota Rav 4?

Me and the missus want to buy a smallish SUV. We have narrowed our search down to the Rav 4 and the Ford Escape. Both are similar in price and size and we like the styling of both. So, anybody had either car or know anything about them that may persuade us to look in a certain direction when it comes to buying one.

We have a 2002 Ford Escape and have to say I love everything about this car. Am kind of sad as we are moving to Australia next week, so I sold my car today. Will be sad to see it leave.

It has great pickup, easy to manage, I love the ride in the car. We will be buying another one once we get to Australia.

I have to come out fighting in the Rav 4 corner. My little black Rav is the best car I ever had.

Toyota = reliable car.

Test drove Ford escape. Good smallish SUV. Does not feel like a 4X4, which is good. Never driven Rav4 but good resale value.

I think the Rav probably looks a bit more sporty if that is your thing. However, recent reviews I read in one of my financial magazine named the Ford Escape as best in it's class. Of course we don't know how neutral that assessment is. I've had absolutely no problems with the Escape at all.

Errr yeah, but you have to remember that I'm a shallow Californian whose only adventure offroad is going over the speed bumps in the parking lot at the mall.

I would go for the Ford Escape, nice mid sized SUV.
I like the wide wheel base with the alloy wheels makes it look beefy from certain angles.

My wifes friend has a Rav 4, and likes it alot, very reliable as most Toyotas are.

If your buying brand new then it comes with a good warrenty so no need to worry about it breaking down etc, but with all new cars they always have teehing problems and some call backs.

I personally like Ford so I am a little bit biased.

Neither as I don't think either come in a 4x4 and therefor would be about as much use as a chocolate teapot for off roading in Arizona. If I where you I would go for either a jeep Liberty (4x4) or a Nissan Xterra (4x4). Personally I like the Xterra but I wouldn't buy Ford if you paid me (2 escorts have seen to that)

We had a Nissan Xterra hire car before we bought the Escape and absolutely hated it. Besides that it is extremely ugly, handled like a bit of crap.

Both come with a 4 wheel drive option as far as I can tell. The jeep Liberty is a few grand more expensive, so that ruled that out and only I like the Xterra, my wife hates it.

Not sure if you have kids, but the Rav4 is really tight with a childs car seat in it - let alone two. Go for the Ford or maybe the GMC Trailblazer.

Default Check the Mazda Tribute

We have the Mazda Tribute, which is pretty much the same as the Ford Escape, you might want to check that also, we got a great deal on a 6 month old one, with 6K miles on it, 7K off new price!
