Foodie thread...just for fun

His thoughts on food and guns were often the most entertaining IMO, and you may notice a couple of gaps of a week or two in his posting history.

Not unless you go off the rails like he did.
His name has apparently been excised from the list of members so finding his posting history required a little creativity. Here is the catalog of the wit and wisdom of TheMadPooper.

Bizarrely enough I have actually lost weight since I moved here, I eat a lot healthier, Living in California (home of health freaks in yoga pants) makes it easier. The food is more expensive, but then our salaries are higher. I go cycling and walking a lot, the weather helps. But as far as food being different, no not really, I was never a real fry up eater, just same old boring cereals. I still go for a damn good ruby! The old bacon discussion will always remain!!

Can you tell me what the equivalent of crumpets are? Sugar free.
And a sugar free brand of peanut butter.

No I wouldn't. Very strict on crumpets, there are no substitutes...ever!

We are moving out next month and both hubby and l seem to have started eating more British things that we wouldn't normally eat, HP sauce, crumpets, eating twice as much marmite and baked beans!!! Think my body is going into some panic mode about things we won't be able to get as easily!!! Lol! I am looking forward to lots of foods over there, especially Snickers ice cream in a tub and buying freshly made sushi in the supermarket!

We're going out end of July, I feel like we'd been waiting forever. Then suddenly I woke up last week and I thought "Daaaaaam, it's only 12 weeks away"
Colman's mustard, Branston pickle, Lea and Perrins sauce, Lincolnshire sausages, Wiltshire ham, Somerset Cider, Cheddar cheese, Stilton cheese, Kelly's icecream, silly expensive crumbly fudge....

Lea & Perrin's is universally available here. You should be able to find Stilton fairly easily, though it isn't cheap and there's also more types of cheddar available than you can shake a stick at but unfortunately it is all of the soft and rubbery kind not the dry and crumbly farmhouse style.

Trader Joe's does Dorset Coastal Cheddar. Wonderful stuff! And I'm not just saying that because I'm originally from Dorset. For me it's worth the high price and long drive to get it. I can live without almost any other foods from the U.K. but this cheese is a necessity.
