Food help needed please....
 

Does anyone know whether you can get suet over here (you know, Atora or something like that?). The inlaws have been reading about english steak and kidney pud so I've been tasked with producing one (just what we want with 85F outside today!). The local supermarkets don't seem to carry it, and when I try to describe it to people they look at me as if I've just asked if I can date their grandmother!

They used to sell Atora Suet at one of our local British shops- will have a look for you next time I'm in there. If they still stock it- I'll PM you, can pick up a box and mail it to you, no problem. They also used to sell Fray Bentos tinned Steak and Kidney puds- which would be even quicker than making it LOL Don't know nowif they are allowed to import those any more though. Will check it out for you.

Your best bet if you want Atora or a British suet product is to head to a shop that sells British foods. I don't know if you can buy Atora online 'cos it's a perishable product but if there are such online shops located in TX, then they may be able to ship to you.

Failing that, if there are real butchers near you, you could try asking him for suet.

Thanks for the replies. I don't actually know of a british shop near us, and don't really want to order stuff like that online. We do have a couple of supermarkets that sell overseas goods, but don't sell suet. I just wonered if it went by a different name here? some things do (like rutabagan!!)

As for real butchers - the stuff of dreams round here I'm afraid. Really enjoy my trips to 'proper' butchers when I go back to Yorshire, but round here don't get anything but butchers counters in supermarkets, and they're just not the same somehow.

Would there be any grief from the US authorities if you had some sent in the post from the UK then ?

Not sure about the authorities view on food in the post, but I don't really want to get it posted anyway. Not that desperate and probably going ot be back in the UK later this year anyway, so can pick it up then

Yeah, I've spoken to those guys a couple of times, but they hvan't had it in stock. They're about 45 minutes away from us - just round the corner in local terms...!

LOL Yes I could imagine Yorkie being hauled in to explain this strange white powder he gets from the UK.....
