Monday night I was trying to book internal flights. It was much cheaper to book direct with the airline. Just a thought.

That seems to be the way these days - last few flights I've booked have been cheaper with the airline, though there is one site that keeps beating aa's prices by 10c.....wtf is that all about

Yes - I posted it!

I don't know if the price still stands but it was only $198 + taxes to fly from Newark, NJ to LGW with Continental for Thanksgiving.....see the link below:

Mine was about $570 which I thought was a good deal.

I would also agree that the Airline Sites are usually cheapest, for me that is really a choice between UA and BA, BA have only one flight a day so you can get really hit if you have a must fly date.

spirit airways are good for flights around the US, and near by ifyou catch the deals, have to be early though.

and there's that beta site which predicts best times to get flights, but i don't have the link here, but posted it on another of the travel threads a few days ago.

Here's another couple of links for you to try. Last month we needed to get to Miami to join a cruise. Miami is expensive to fly to so we also considered flying into Palm beach and Fort Lauderdale. The prices that Continental (our nearest airport is Newark where Continental is the major airline) had on their website were astronomical, even though I get 500 airmiles if I book on Continental.com

I looked up bookingbuddy.com and there was a link to a consolidator called Ultimate Fares. I simultaneously had prices for the same flight and same airline on Continental.com and Ultimate Fares.com and the fare was $150 per ticket cheaper on Ultimate! (This was a big saving of $450 as I needed three tickets).

Check it out:

http://www.ultimatefares.com

Also: You might want to consider buying a last-minute package with go-today.com. They have excellent deals in London including airfare and hotel....of course you might not even choose to stay in the hotel but it can work out cheaper than just buying an air ticket only. They have special fares for Christmas and New Year (scroll down past the London/Rome trips etc. to see the London only prices):

http://www.go-today.com

also: http://www.site59.com (US arm of the the UK's LastMinute.com)

Finally.....since you can fly out of JFK....have you considered flying with Icelandair (via Reykjavik) or directly to London with Air India? My sister has been to visit me by flying with Air India....not her favourite airline but the ticket was amazingly cheap. These airlines never really seem to show up on Orbitz, Expedia etc. so either go directly to their websites or find a consolidator in NYC.

Hope this helps!

NEWSFLASH!

I've just had an e-mail from Travelzoo.

There is an amazing Autumn special fare (which includes the Thanksgiving period) with SAS from a number of US cities (New York/Washington DC/Chicago/Seattle).....you would just need to pay the 'add-on' to a UK regional airport or try your luck with Easyjet, Ryanair etc:

Fares:

New York (EWR - Newark), Chicago, to Stockholm *or* Copenhagen

Washington DC & Seattle to Copenhagen only = $199 each way. This includes the fuel charges. Taxes are approx $80

(That's an amazing fare from Seattle!)

Travel Dates:

Must be from November 18-30, 2006 or January 11 - March 22, 2007. Maximum stay one month.

It is an SAS internet only special fare and the link is here:

http://www.scandinavian.net/EC/Appl/...DIBP%2C00.html

(I only received the link from Travelzoo today so I imagine that SAS has extended the dates for purchasing tickets.....sooner better than later I guess!).
